Sunrise at Jacobs Well
Jacobs Well is named for its natural freshwater waterhole. Thirsty travellers have been visiting Jacobs Well since the mid 1800s. Situated near the mouth of the Pimpama River on the edge of a pristine waterway peppered with uninhabited islands, Jacobs Well is a haven for fishermen and boat enthusiasts alike.
As the gateway to southern Moreton Bay, Jacobs Well is just a short boat ride to the Gold Coast Broadwater and the tourist Mecca of Southport. The area is an ideal launch site for access the islands and channels of the Jumpinpin area, well-known for its ideal fishing and boating conditions. Boaties enjoy exploring the myriad of islands in the coastal channel and there are no bridges or obstacles to spoil the fun. Fisherman find nearby estuary waters teeming with flathead, whiting, tailor, and bream. Reel them in from the jetty or over the side of a boat.
Just to the north is Southern Moreton Bay Islands National Park which forms part of the Moreton Bay and Pumicestone Passage Important Bird Area, so identified by Bird Life International because it supports large numbers of migratory waders, or shorebirds.
Calypso Bay is a unique canal community set beside the calm and sheltered waters of southern Moreton Bay, and situated midway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
