Somerset Dam is a mass concrete gravity dam with a gated spillway across the Stanley River in South East Queensland, Australia. The impounded reservoir is called Lake Somerset. Somerset is a gated dam, allowing us to make controlled water releases during times of heavy rain. It has an additional flood storage capacity of 524,000 megalitres. The main purpose of the dam is the supply of potable water for the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Logan City regions. Additionally, the dam provides for flood mitigation, recreation and for the generation of hydroelectricity. Somerset Dam is located just one hour from the city of Brisbane and is the perfect place for those who love their water sports, fishing, walking and the great outdoors
