Cabbage Tree Point is a headland jutting into southern Moreton Bay and is 44 km southeast of Brisbane. The town of Steiglitz is located at Cabbage Tree Point and the town is often referred to as Cabbage Tree Point. The name refers to the cabbage tree palms that grew in the area. Southern Moreton Bay Islands National Park was declared in March 2000 and consists of five islands, Willes, Cobby Cobby, Kangaroo, Woogoompah and Coomera, with a total area greater than 1500 ha. This National Park supports over half of the mangroves in Moreton Bay. These mangrove and tidal flats provide extensive habitat for fish, birds, shellfish, dugongs and turtles. The islands are surrounded by conservation and marine national park zones within the Moreton Bay Marine Park.
